Veteran
actor Charles Thake, aged 80, was injured on the set of
the ancient Egyptian epic ‘Agora’, onlookers told
MaltaToday.
Thake, who
was unavailable for comment, had “a bad fall” during a
scene in which extras had to run. They collided with the
actor, who was reported to have incurred minor facial
injuries.
Production
supervisor Oliver Mallia said the accident “was of minor
nature” and didn’t stop Thake from working with the
production.
Academy
Award-winner Alejandro Amenábar is directing the
big-budget Agora on location in Malta, which is expected
to take about 15 weeks. Nearly 400 locals were employed
preparing the largest set ever built on Malta for the
movie, which has a €50 million budget.
Hollywood
star Rachel Weisz plays the real-life figure Hypatia of
Alexandria, the Western world’s first female astronomer
and philosopher.
Weisz’s
husband Darren Aronofsky is also in Malta, editing his
new film The Wrestler, apparently in the comfort of the
couple’s Marsaxlokk house and on his Mac, as evidenced
in his blog entry this week.
Toilet
troubles
In another
episode on the film set, an extra claimed he was fired
on the spot for demanding to go to the toilet. Chris
Muscat, 29, says he repeatedly asked members of the film
crew in between cuts to go to the toilet but was denied
the request because the scene was not yet filmed in its
entirety.
Muscat said
he waited at least 20 minutes after being told he would
be given a toilet break. As he left the film set to go
for his break, a man in charge asked him for his name
and said he was to be escorted by security outside the
film site and would not be paid for the day.
Muscat said
he was accused of talking on the set. He said a day’s
filming would have earned him €47. |
